Is addiction a disease or something else? - insane - 05-21-2015

I have a sister in law who has been on methadone for so long its not funny and I see her wake up drive to the clinic and get her dose and it seems like a choice but it she doesn't get it she feels really ill. Could she endure that with willpower dose down and quit or is there something about it that makes her helpless?

methadone? methadone is HIGHLY addictive. Withdrawal from methadone is often even more difficult than withdrawal from heroin.

Methadone, a long-acting opiate (link is external) often prescribed as a replacement for heroin (link is external) can cause death during withdrawal if it's consumed in high enough doses for a long enough period
